Nativspeaker im Englischunterricht

Shortly before the winter break, an American exchange student named Paul Giles visited the Wirtschaftsschule Deggendorf. Paul is from Iowa in the United States and is currently spending a year in Germany as part of an exchange program. During his stay, he is living with Ms. Fink.

Paul spoke to the students about life in America. He explained what school is like in the United States and compared it with the German school system. He also talked about politics, popular sports such as American football and basketball, and what daily life is like for teenagers in the United States.

His visit was especially fitting because it matched the current unit in the Year 8 English class. In the students’ textbook, they are currently learning about the state of Iowa, so it was very interesting for them to hear about the place directly from someone who actually lives there.

The students were very interested and asked many questions about American culture and school life. Paul answered them openly and shared many personal experiences from his life in Iowa.

At the end of the visit, Paul encouraged the Year 8 students to consider participating in an exchange program in the future. He explained that living in another country is a great opportunity to learn about a new culture, improve language skills, and meet new people. Information material about exchange programs is available in the school office for all students who are interested in taking part in an exchange year.

Overall, Paul’s visit was very interesting and inspiring for the students.
